“The more you focus on words that uplift you, the more you embody the ideas contained in those words”

Oprah Winfrey

One can never underestimate the power of words to uplift you and move you to action. I went back to this quote from Oprah after interviewing Lira, the stunning and exceptionally talented South African artist, who is very passionate about global women’s issues but specifically those issues that African women grapple with. In our feature story, she speaks of women accepting responsibility for their actions and no longer giving excuses. Of being conscious of our attitudes and how we have the power to control our attitudes in spite of our circumstances and the environment we find ourselves in. “It is our responsibility to become who we truly are or destined to be” To do that we need to become responsible and accountable first to ourselves, and then to our families and our communities. There is an urgent need to teach our daughters to be conscious and cognizant of this irrefutable law of life, because only then will they be conscious of their choice of life partners. Partners who are compatible with who they truly are; Partners whose goals are aligned with their own well thought out educational, financial and emotional goals. Partners who will make an abundant difference in their lives and not leave them constantly feeling lacking …lacking of love financial stability, emotional support and a loving family.
